International Open Data Day

Open Data Day (ODD), observed on March 1st, is a global celebration of open data. On this day, groups from almost every nation organise local activities where they will employ open data in their communities. Through the Open Knowledge Network, the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN) supports and maintains ODD. The Open Knowledge Foundation is part of a worldwide movement working together for a fair, sustainable and open future.

Open Data Day reaches out to everyone, people, public servants, designers, developers and statisticians, to encourage input into making data more open and relatable, as well as using skills to help understand data and develop solutions that help resolve important societal issues.

If you go to the OKFN website you’ll be able to see what Open Knowledge Data Tools there are available, read and listen to podcasts relating to OPEN GOES COP – a coalition advocating for openness in the UN Climate Change Conferences aiming to overcome the lack of discussion about openness at a COP level and influence high-level decisions on climate issues globally and read lots of interesting ‘100+ Conversations’ around access to data and the issues and challenges faced by the Open Movement globally.
